Short answer: Abattoir management software tracks each animal from receipt and lairage through ante-mortem inspection, slaughter, post-mortem inspection, carcass and cut weights, chiller temperatures, packing and barcode dispatch — so every cut can be traced back to one animal tag. Pearl Solutions' Abattoir Batch Production Suite does this inside Odoo, linking production batches to sales orders and connecting it to accounting, purchase and inventory.

Abattoir Management Software — Lairage to Dispatch in One System
What abattoir software must track, where spreadsheets break, and how one system links every cut back to one animal.
By Pearl Solutions · Updated October 2026 · 9 min read
An abattoir runs on three numbers that spreadsheets cannot hold together: which animal, what it weighed at each stage, and where every cut went. A buyer audit, a halal certification visit or a single customer complaint asks for all three at once. If the answer lives in four registers and a WhatsApp group, the audit fails before the software question is even asked.
What should abattoir management software do?
| Stage | What the software must record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Procurement & receipt | Supplier, animal type, tag code, live weight, purchase price | Cost per animal is the base of every margin calculation |
| Lairage | Pen, arrival time, holding status, animals available for slaughter | Only rested, inspected animals should reach the line |
| Ante-mortem inspection | Temperature, pulse, respiration, body condition, fit/unfit | An "unfit" animal must be physically blocked from production — not just noted |
| Slaughter & post-mortem | Carcass weight, organ and carcass checklist, condemnations | Food safety record and yield baseline |
| Cutting & batching | Cut weights, a lot number per cut linked to the animal | Traceability and yield-per-animal |
| Chiller / cold chain | Room and product temperatures over time | Shelf life and buyer compliance |
| Packing & dispatch | Labels, packed weight, scan-to-validate against the delivery | Wrong-box shipments and weight disputes disappear |
| Invoicing | Weight-based billing, back-orders for remaining weight | You bill what you shipped, to the kilogram |
What is lairage software, and do you need it separately?
Lairage is the holding area where animals rest before slaughter. "Lairage software" tracks which animals are in which pen, how long they have been there, and whether they have passed ante-mortem inspection. You do not need a separate lairage product: in a proper abattoir system, the lairage is simply a stock location, and an animal's status (received, inspected, fit, unfit) decides whether it can be selected for a production batch. Separate systems are exactly how the "which animal?" question stops having an answer.
How does traceability work from carcass to cut?
Every animal gets a lot number on receipt — for example COW-001. When it is processed, every cut inherits a child lot — COW-001-RIB, COW-001-FLANK. Weight is captured at each stage:
Live weight → Carcass weight → Cut weight → Dispatch weight
That chain gives you two things at once: a traceability record any buyer or inspector can follow from a box label back to an animal, and a yield report showing where weight is lost — by day, by line and by animal type.
Software for abattoirs and meat wholesalers
Many Pakistani operations both slaughter and sell wholesale. The two halves need to share one stock:
- Demand-driven batches. A confirmed sales order creates a production batch, so you process for orders, not on guesswork. Large orders can be split into sub-batches (10 animals as 2 + 3 + 5).
- Weight-based selling. Price per kg, partial shipments, and automatic back-orders for the remaining weight.
- Cold-chain dispatch. FEFO picking from the chiller and scan-validated loading.
- One set of books. Purchase cost of the animal, processing cost, and sale price land in the same accounting system — so margin per animal is a report, not a weekend in Excel.
The Abattoir Batch Production Suite
Pearl Solutions built the Abattoir Batch Production Suite on Odoo for exactly this workflow: Purchase → Inspection → Batching → Processing → Packing → Dispatch. It adds:
- A Batch Master linked one-to-one with sales orders, with progress tracking per batch
- Ante-mortem (TPR, body condition) and post-mortem checklists — animals marked unfit are locked out of production
- A guided production wizard that walks operators through weight entry and grading, auto-generating lot numbers
- Chiller temperature logs for rooms and products
- A barcode dispatch screen for the loading bay, with back-order handling
- Label printing for ear tags and box/bag labels, and scale-ready fields for weigh-scale integration via Odoo's IoT Box
Inspection checklists are configurable to the rules your buyers apply — halal requirements, export-market food-safety rules or your own SOPs. Because it runs on standard Odoo Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing and Quality, everything else in the business — accounting, payroll, CRM — sits in the same system.
Halal and export compliance
For exporters, traceability is not a nice-to-have; it is what the foreign buyer's audit checks. A system that can produce, in minutes, the animal, inspection record, slaughter date, chiller history and dispatch for any box label turns an audit from a scramble into a print-out. Pearl Solutions has deployed this for a halal meat processor supplying international markets.
Signs your abattoir has outgrown spreadsheets
- You cannot say, today, the yield per animal for last week.
- A customer complaint takes more than an hour to trace to an animal.
- Dispatch weight and invoice weight do not match, and nobody knows why.
- Chiller temperatures are on a paper sheet on the wall.
- Animal purchase cost and sale price sit in different files.
If three of these are true, the problem is no longer the spreadsheet — it is the missing system. See also the ERP readiness checklist.

Frequently Asked Questions
Abattoir management software tracks each animal from procurement and lairage through ante-mortem inspection, slaughter, post-mortem inspection, cutting, chiller storage, packing and dispatch, so every cut can be traced back to one animal tag and yield can be measured at every stage.
Lairage software tracks animals in holding pens before slaughter: which pen, arrival time and inspection status. In a full abattoir system the lairage is a stock location, and only animals that passed ante-mortem inspection can be selected for a production batch.
Each animal receives a lot number on receipt, such as COW-001. During processing every cut gets a child lot, such as COW-001-RIB, and weight is recorded at live, carcass, cut and dispatch stage. Scanning a box label shows the animal, its inspection records, chiller history and dispatch.
